Sutter / CPMC - Van Ness & Geary Campus Hospital

LEED certified and featuring a pedestrian tunnel below ground, including 376,000 square feet of underground parking. Occupying an entire city block, this 13-story, 274 bed acute-care hospital is being built in a spirit of innovative collaboration that embraces a LEAN culture. The 740,000 square foot hospital includes 119 viscous wall dampers that absorb energy to reduce any lateral movement caused by earthquakes and wind. The system also reduces the amount of structural steel required in the building. It is the first of its kind in North America.
