JAMES K. POLK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

ACPS planned to use Polk Elementary School as a test location for various mechanical upgrades, sustainable improvements, and two additions. The scope included minor renovations of the interior of the school in conjunction with other work, a precast gymnasium and support rooms as an addition, 72 geothermal wells located in the existing playing fields, 52 solar panels to be used as photovoltaic and hot water solar arrays, over 7,000 SF of extensive vegetated roofs, EcoAir underground piping to provide tempered air to the new gymnasium, and major mechanical upgrades including energy recovery unit heat exchangers to work in conjunction with the hot water solar arrays and geothermal wells. The construction was completed in two distinct phases across roughly 16 months with a contract value of $10,000,000.
